The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Kobunsha not only published the Chronicles of Narnia in their Classics line, they produced these audiobooks, narrated in Japanese, available from Audible. They all have simple yet attractive covers in bright, pastel shades. I’ve noticed that about Japan and also China. Western fairytales get the ethereal, watercolor treatment, romanticized as a story that happened long ago and far away. There are exceptions, of course, like the manga-style cover for The Horse and His Boy, to the left. But on the whole, it’s very fairytale.

It looks like the artist has read (or listened) the books for all of these, and though it doesn’t look like the artist labored too long, the highlighted elements have been chosen wisely and indicate the important elements of the plot. The only one that sticks out is the cover for The Silver Chair, in which a grieving King Caspian is front and center and HOLY YOWZA WTF LOOK AT THOSE FINGERNAILS ON HIM.
