Worldbuilding Wednesday 8/19/26: Narnian Imbibeables (Narnia LXXXIV)

What do Narnians drink at their tourney celebrations?

Narnian Imbibeables

Archbird’s Nutbiter A popular beer brewed by Loren Archbird, owner of the Gray Stag Inn on the outskirts of Anvard. Like all Archenland beers it has a sharper taste than the Narnian ones and includes mountain hops. Archbird is well on in years now but his sons are taking over the business. Available for export.
Black Wine An alcoholic drink from Calormen that is imported in large quantities to the north. This is the name Narnia gives it. No one knows the recipe but it is very dark, tastes strongly of sweet grapes, and is highly alcoholic. Said to drive men mad, second in potency to the magic wines of Bacchus.
Catsip A golden liquor of Terebinthia meant to be sipped slowly over royal feasts. Its slightly sweet, anisette flavor enhances most foods.
Dwarven Beer Dwarves are the best brewers in Narnia, having a long tradition of it. Dwarven beer can be found at all inns, taverns, feasts, and tourneys. Enough is made to be exported and it brings a surprising amount of income. Each clan has its own recipe. At some point I’ll go into this topic further.
Gleisten A pale cider from Archenland made from late apples and pears flavored with alpine herbs.
Harfang Honey A mead made by the giants of Harfang and traded to other giant settlements in the area. Purportedly made from the honey of giant, cat-sized bees. Occasionally some makes its way south on trader’s routes and it is no better or worse than Narnian mead.
Hedgehog Peeler Talking Mice distill this sweet, clear liquor in small quantities. To humans it creates a nice buzz, but it has an almost catastrophic effect on mice, who wisely moderate its use. Chamomile is one of its components.
Salty Witch A liquor popular in Narnian inns. Like a Margarita, it is served with a rim of salt around the top, but the taste is more vegetable and herbal. It is said to clear the mind and the palette for a meal’s next course.
Swampknocker A traditional Marshwiggle brandy. To its brew is added bits of seaweed washed up on the tide which gives it a distinct marine taste. Very powerful and it is recommended humans do not drink it, at least not straight.
Traveler’s Corn This light, sparkling beer comes from the Western Mountains. No one knows who makes it, but it’s a regular on trading routes and can be found in most inns.
Wines of Bacchus No other being in Narnia can match these magical creations of Bacchus which  quench the spirit as much as the thirst. Usually only available on the Midsummer Revels, Bacchus occasionally gifts a crate to a royal celebration such as a tourney or coronation.
Winter’s Tea An alcoholic mixed drink based on strong, brewed black tea fortified with cinnamon, ginger, star anise and cranberries. Drunk hot on winter celebrations in Narnia.
